Policeman Kidnaps Teenage Girl, Impregnates Her

Three months after a police corporal, Emmanuel Okujo, shot his estranged lover, Blessing Isanbor, and kidnapped her sister in the Gbagada area of Lagos, he has been arrested.
The trigger-happy corporal was said to have showed up Monday at the Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos, with the kidnapped-victim, Patience Isanbor, who was discovered to be pregnant for him.
He absconded with the victim’s younger sister to an unknown destination, a development that resulted in his being declared wanted by the police.
During investigation, the trigger-happy policeman, attached to Ifako division, told detectives at the State Investigation Bureau that he dropped his AK 47 riffle at a location, where he informed a colleague to get it from.
He denied abducting Patience, claiming that she is now his girl-friend. He also blamed his action on the handiwork of the devil, adding that shooting Patience's elder sister was an accidental discharge.
Collaborating his claim, Patience said she followed Corporal Emmanuel willingly to his hideout, which none of them disclosed, saying they only came out of hiding in order to clear her lover’s name in the kidnap saga.
From what Olufamous.com gathered from Police sources in Lagos, investigation will begin afresh to ascertain what really went down between all the parties. Meanwhile, the elder sister, Blessing, is said to be responding to treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
Corporal Emmanuel had shot Blessing in the mouth, in her parents’ apartment at Ifako, Lagos, during an argument and locked her inside, apparently to bleed to death.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Jaiyeoba, who confirmed the arrest, described the incident as unfortunate. He said that Patience would not be left out as she might also be charged for conspiracy.

Port Harcourt Big Boy Caught Glued To Taxi Driver's Wife

Wonder they say shall never end. This is a strange, dramatic but true story of a Port Harcourt big boy who was caught glued to a taxi driver’s wife while they were having sex.
As the story goes, the said big boy (name withheld) has been having sexual affair with the taxi driver’s wife for long before he met his waterloo.
The taxi driver who operates from Rukpokwu, we gathered, had found out that his wife is enjoying a sizzling love affair with this big boy and he warned her severally to stop seeing the man, a warning which she refused to heed.
The taxi driver, we gathered, also warned the big boy who obviously wooed his wife with money, to stop seeing his wife but he never listened, probably due to the sexual ecstasy the woman usually gives him anytime they have sex, coupled with her beauty.
When he realized that they are still seeing each other, the taxi driver used a very potent “gumming” juju on his wife.
Unfortunately for the woman who wasn’t aware of what her husband has placed on her, she went to her big boy lover. As usual they went to their love nest where they engaged in another round of steamy sex, after which they glued to each other, and the big boy could not come down from the top of the woman, afterwards.
When they were caught glued to each other, the taxi driver confessed to lacing his wife with “gumming” juju to stick them together. He vowed not to separate them unless the big boy gives him N10 million cash on the spot.
Consequently, they were all taken to Rumuokoro Police Station where the policemen on duty persuaded him to separate them.

Men Beware! Beautiful Women Are Dangerous To Your Health

A beautiful woman is the envy of many. While being beautiful does have numerous advantages, there are also disadvantages – one of which is being harmful to men’s health.

It has long been said that beautiful women are hard on men’s hearts and therefore, getting in contact with them might be harmful to men’s health, raising stress hormones to dangerously high levels, says a new study.

According to the study which was carried out by Spanish researchers, when men are in the presence of a beautiful stranger they view as “out of their league,” the risks are even higher, with cortisol levels rising so high that heart attacks and strokes become real possibilities.

“This is another case of hard science proving the obvious,” said a psychiatrist, Irvin Wolkoff, who was involved with the study.

In carrying out the study, the researchers tested 84 male students by asking each one to sit in a room and solve a Sudoku puzzle. Two strangers, one male and one female, were also in the room.

The outcome of this experiment showed that when the female stranger left the room and the two men remained sitting together, the volunteer’s levels of the stress hormone cortisol did not rise. But, when the volunteer was left alone with the female stranger, his cortisol levels rose, as measured by a saliva swab.

The researchers, also explained that for most men, the presence of an attractive woman may induce the perception that there is an opportunity for courtship.

It all boils down to evolution. Since cavemen days, men have been hardwired so that when they see an attractive woman, their cortisol response kicks in to tell men to seek out that woman for mating purposes, Wolkoff says.

Even though today’s man is sophisticated and enlightened, underneath, when he sees an attractive female, he feels stress about wanting to mate with her, and worrying about whether she might already have a mate or be unresponsive.

“So by definition, sexual encounters are in the same general category as fighting or fleeing. These are stressful situations,” he says.

Wolkoff says there’s nothing wrong with feeling cortisol or andrenaline in small doses. But he says if elevated levels are sustained over extended periods of time, stress can be very unhealthy.

Dr Charles Agadu, a physician explains: “When a man sees a beautiful lady, his cortisol level rises and when the level gets too high it could lead to cardiac problems”.

Cortisol is a one of the hormones secreted by the adrenal glands in the body and this hormone is also called the fright hormone, i.e the hormone that also produces the very well known adrenalin, Agadu said.

Facts have it that when some men spend just 5mins with a beautiful lady, it causes so much stress which is not good for the heart. So for such men ,their anxiety rate will be very high as their cortisol levels will rise even higher .This might cause heart attacks and strokes because exposure to physical and psychological stresses for a long time may chronically increase cortisol levels, Agadu explains further.

Agadu stated however that, cortisol impairs the immune system thereby worsening diabetes, hypertension and impotence. But this is not to say that on sighting a beautiful woman a man just develops heart attack on the spot, but constant contact and exposure to beautiful women over time is what could make cortisol level to rise to dangerously high levels to the extent of posing a threat to a man’s life.

An Abuja based psychologist , Rukayat Jubril says that naturally, when we see beautiful things we stop to look.

According to her, this is not particular to men alone because even when a woman sees a fellow woman that is very beautiful she stops to look and admire her. If a woman experiences this, then one should expect a more spontaneous reaction from the opposite sex.

"When a man sees a beautiful woman, what comes to his mind is an imagination of what she would look like without clothes. Again, he could get worried whether if he approaches her for a relationship she would accept", Rukayat pointed out.

Fear of rejection is what can easily trigger a heart attack , especially when a man is crazy about a particular woman. There is always this fear that he might be rejected. Living with the situation for a long period of time could eventually result in the cortisol level rising gradually until it gets too bad to trigger heart problems.

This is not to say that the heart starts malfunctioning as soon as a man sets his eyes on a beautiful woman. In a situation where this suddenly happens, then the man must have had an underlying critical heart condition, she stated.

Mindset has a great role to play in his situation. There are some men that are not moved at all when they get in contact with women while some on just seeing them get aroused. It all depends on individual, the psychologist concluded.

Uti Nwachukwu Is Gay And Alex Ekubo Is His Partner

His name is Uti Nwachukwu; some call him "Ugo Na Chonmma", others refer to him as Omoge to Rewa or the Hausa title "Kyakywar Yarinya" (gorgeous damsel).

The story of Uti will not only set the pace for blockbuster chart but is capable of re-orientating most struggling young lads out there. He is an ex-Big Brother winner and sometime in the past there had been very audible speculations about his sexuality. But that has in no way stopped the viciously ambitious young man from forging ahead. It is a known fact that most housemates and winners of both reality and talent shows become very irrelevant not too long after their rise to spontaneous stardom but for Uti, that is not the case as he has come in full blast into the world of entertainment.

From acting to presenting even to comedy shows, he’s calling the shots but it is in the area of style and fashion that his profile has witnessed the most astronomical rise. Local designers court him faster than Harry Winston does with Hollywood stars. There is no red carpet event that he does not attend looking glamorous and expensively trendy, give it to him, his swagger is unrivaled.

But in recent times, it is Uti’s sexuality that has become a hot topic amongst most Lagos big boys and girls and the sole reason is simply because he has not conducted his affairs with discretion. The reason why this open secret has somehow evaded the front pages of tabloids is due to his impeccable public relations and close ties with those style, fashion and celebrity editors. It is pertinent to note that in addition to being a style icon, Uti has become the most celebrated gaayy icon from this side of the divide.

Young boys who are either bisexuals or homosexuals look up to him for inspiration with the belief and confidence that if he could then they can surely do. Uti shares his 1004 apartment on the up-market Victoria Island with his alleged live-in-lover Alex Ekubo whose only credential to fame is contesting the former Mr. Nigeria pageant. To justify their living together, Uti would always refer to Alex as his “publicist”; he tells you that Alex manages his social commitments hence they have to live together.

The affair between Uti and Alex is typical of what is obtained in the gaayy community there’s never total loyalty and 100% submission to the other partner that explains why Uti still has his many other casual flings and Alex does his own by the side.

But contrary to that impression, they have been dating since their path crossed and were they to be living in any western country this relationship would have most likely had some sort of legalization to it, but unfortunately this is Nigeria where we pretend to have zero tolerance for this abnormal love relationship.

Perfectly illustrate how their affair thrives it will be important to simplify the gaayy strata; in the gaayy world there are three stanzas: top, bottom, and versatile. The top is the man in the relationship and he penetrates the bottom who acts as the woman in the relationship. The versatile is that lover who can play both roles. Gorgeous Alex who is not only the man in this relationship but well-endowed in the down region has built a reputation amongst his previous lovers and it was a devastation when they lost him to the passionately Intimate Uti who has an insatiable quest for fun.

Uti has undying fleets of female admirers but in his closet he would laugh at them because they are all in search of the same thing he’s looking out for. That explains why he has no girlfriend despite his super fit look. This prompted one of the Island big girls who have exhausted all tricks in the book trying to woo Uti to make a move she will live to regret.

She was invited to their 1004 apartment and she went with the delusion of climaxing her best ecstasy only to receive an indescribable shock! After the usual tete-a-tete Uti left her in the sitting room and returned to the bedroom, when it was taking too long she decided to try her luck by heading to the bedroom only to find Alex and Uti in a very uncompromising position. She ran to the sitting room, picked her bag and dashed off, even with apologies that came after, she still feels humiliated as they should have waited for her to leave before getting dirty.

That is just a tip of the iceberg into the erotically flamed relationship between the two

“supermodels”. At the last Arise fashion show held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Uti made sure designers who signed him on also signed on Alex otherwise he wouldn’t work with them, this was to make sure that his darling boyfriend is part and parcel of that prestigious show. It was a rude shock to a lot of those present but they cared less because being on the runway of such a well-publicized fashion show was going to be hugely beneficial to Alex’s rising profile.

They travel in and out of the country together, all sponsored by Uti, but that is not to say that fine boy Alex has not worked for the perks he has put in all his energy and strength in his “official” duties as his “publicist” but is also very difficult for them as they cannot make this affair public. Without an iota of doubt Alex is not only Uti’s commitment as they seem to have an open sort of arrangement.

In Abuja, Uti has become one scandalous high flyer, on numerous occasions his name has been dragged into many boyfriend-snatching scandals prompting one of Abuja leading gaayy flyers to declare him unwanted in his circle of friends. The way he rolls his eyes and bats his eyelid add that to his high octane preening, Uti prides himself as having the ability to bend a straight guy.

His undoing is his lousiness in dropping the names of important personalities that have greased his oil well and how powerfully connected he has become, unknown to him even his close friends might be wearing encrypted wrist watches capable of audio recording voices his house or hook-up spot. Uti’s case is not isolated, when a popular pop star was ousted he quickly picked a student from one of the remote universities in the eastern part of the country and tied the knot with her (which normal girl will not want an upgrade no matter the conditions attached).

This kind of case is not only peculiar with Nigeria. Popular US talk show host and queen of gossip on American TV last month called Kanye West gaayy on her talk show “Two Sisters Living Together” referring to his well-publicized relationship with reality superstar, Kim Kardashian. In 2009, 50 cent also referred to Kanye West as gaayy in a live radio broadcast while fielding questions on rap culture.

They are just a confirmation of the sexuality rumours that have surrounded the rap mogul, Hollywood actor Tom Cruise has been a subject of eternal gaayy rumor leading comedians like Fashion Police host Joan Rivers to openly call him gaayy on her hugely popular fashion program. Until his latest series of gaayy scandal where over half a dozen men have come out to claim that John Travolta sexually abused them in their massage parlour, most bloggers and tabloids in America have consistently maintained that Travolta was gaayy even though he is married with kids to actress Kelly Preston.

In Nigeria today the number of well-meaning Nigerians who are married yet remain gaayys is to put it mildly explosive, if only the public knew how they have been fooled, including the Nollywood hunk of South Eastern origin who has wrongly led all to believe that he made his millions dating powerful and rich women in the society, whereas he acquired his financial liquidity greasing the oil well of a former south-south governor or the married record label owner who must taste your chocolate stick before he signs you on his label.

This exponential list could contain your husband, father, brother, fiance or even son hence it will be good not to quickly pass judgments on the likes of Uti and company.

My Wife Sleeping With My Church Members; Pastor Opens Up

Those present at the Ake Customary Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State, were stunned by Pastor Samuel Oyedotun recently when he confessed that he wouldn‘t have got married to his wife, Lydia, if he knew that the woman is irresponsible.

He said his wife made him believe she was religious when they met, until after she bore two children for him and he discovered she indulged in drinking beer and is also adulterous.

This, according Pastor Samuel, gives serious concern to the extent that he hardly prayed as he used to do before they became husband and wife.

The pastor said he met Lydia in lbadan and they got married legally while the union, according to him, is blessed with five children.

He added that what informed his decision to sue for divorce was that he found that she was dating some rich men in his church, and that when he confronted her, she didn't deny but threatened to deal with him if he disturbs her. All efforts to stop her from continuing in the habit proved abortive.

Pastor Samuel therefore urged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant him custody of the children. Though the 37-year-old woman denied the allegations levelled against her by the husband, she told the court she was ready to accept the divorce. Lyndia claimed the marriage is not the end of road for her.

The wife however said she wants custody of the children because she believe the money Pastor Samuel would be making from his church would not be enough for the upkeep of the children.

Meanwhile, the case was adjourned for further hearing.

Husband and Wife Fight Dirty over Millions of Naira; Wife Regrets Having Joint Account

Trust is one commodity that is becoming increasingly scarce in many marriages these days. A 45-year-old woman, Florence Dipeolu, on Monday in Lagos accused her husband, Abimbola, of selling the properties they jointly owned.

She said, “After our marriage, he asked me to operate a joint account with him and I obliged. We made many investments in real estate among others. But unfortunately, in 2010 he and the children he had in his previous marriage started accusing me of infidelity.

“His children would come to my matrimonial house and beat me up while he personally supervises the beating. In June last year, I was beaten to a coma and did not return to the house after I was discharged from hospital.”

Florence said when she returned to the house, she found out that the house, which they jointly built, had been sold. She said she regretted operating a joint account with her husband of 22 years, adding that she was left with nothing after her husband sold all she had toiled for.

Florence accused her husband of forcibly asking her children to sign the documents he used to sell the seven-bedroom duplex at Alakuko area of Lagos.

She said, “Apart from this, he sold my two vehicles, invaded my food processing factory and sold all the plants and equipment there. He also sold the fuel tanker I use for oil business. In fact, he has ruined me and I am left with nothing. All attempts to get him reverse his decisions have proved abortive.”

Florence said she could no longer cater for the need of her children.

She said, “Our marriage produced five children, three of them are undergraduates in Ghana, one just finished secondary school while the last child is still in secondary school.

“I have been the one taking care of them all this while as he has abandoned me with their upkeep. As I speak with you, the three of them in Ghana are stranded because I cannot pay their school fees.”

However, 80-year-old Abimbola refuted Florence’s claims and accused her of squandering the capital he invested in various businesses.

Abimbola said, “She had no specific work she was doing before I set her up in business with over N23m which she has since squandered. After wasting the money with her numerous boyfriends she sleeps around with, she deserted me, packed out of the house and took away almost all my properties.

“On noticing this, I purposely sold that house in order to get rid of her and I slept in the church for over one year in order to avoid her trouble.”

He said he had waited patiently for over one year expecting his wife’s family members or friends to come forward. Abimbola advised his estranged wife to file for a divorce if she was no longer interested in the marriage.

Photo: Nollywood Actress Beaten to Stupor by Army Personnel

The level of civility of men of the Nigerian Army has been called to question again, following the madness visited by its personnel on beautiful actress, Dorothy Njamanze.
The actress, who's also a rights activist, was assaulted by men of the Nigerian Army recently, during which she was seriously brutalised that she is still in the hospital responding to treatment at an Abuja Hospital.
Below is how she recounted her ordeal in the hands of military personnel....
“On my way from the ambassador for peace beauty pageant held at the Sheraton Hotels, I decided to check on my brother at the end of my street. I parked my car in front of Dreams Garden at the end of my street behind one bus, and was going in to see Ugo (my brother) when a man dressed in a man-o-war uniform appeared from nowhere and shoved me on my breasts, commanding that I get into the bus I parked behind.

I reprimanded him for touching my breasts but instead of apologizing, he continued to pushing me by my breasts towards the bus, so when I couldn’t bear it anymore I pushed him too and started running away.

Three men wearing man-o-war uniform and a head warmer, no name tags, and two plain clothes policemen ran after me. When they caught me they descended on me, beating me mercilessly despite the fact that I was screaming who I was.

A girl who was waiting for me in my car, after waiting for a while and didn’t see me, came down to go and look for me at my brother’s place. She was horrified to see all those uniformed men assaulting me and trying to force me into the bus.

She started pleading with them, telling them who I am and even showing them my car keys, but all to no avail. She started screaming when she thought they were going to kill me and that attracted people’s attention.

When crowd gathered and people started recognizing me, they started coming to my rescue and there was almost a mob attack. A soldier out of fear cocked his gun and said he’ll shoot me if I don’t enter the bus.

What hurts most is that I’ve been fighting against violence against women, and now I’m a first victim of it. I have over 70 cases of abused women on Abuja streets. “The team that assaulted me tried to escape. I chased them down to area 10.

Ugo found me there and another soldier cocked a gun, pointed at his tummy and threatened to shoot. A female soldier cocked her gun and pointed at Justina, the girl in my car, who was supposed to be on my show (ability talk, earlier in the day on love 104.5fm). Apparently the female soldier wanted to shoot Justina for having piercings on her face, because she said Justina was not a true Nigerian by that," She said

She further stated that "women have been randomly abducted and forced to confess to prostitution by AEPB in conjunction with the questionable NGO, Society Against Prostitution and Child Labour.

I have over 70 cases against them and now I’m a victim. Women are not safe in Abuja.

The Military should be put to better use. It’s high time they pay for the damages they have been causing. I am so traumatized. Having cocked guns pointed at us is a mental image that tortures me.

Government needs to hear us out, get facts and figures and stop the abuse against women. I wish the national assembly will permit me make a full presentation on the degree of this violence against women in Abuja and act immediately on it.

I have rape victims, bullet injury victims, people beaten out of their jeeps at gunpoint whose names were published as prostitutes in national dailies, abused youth coppers… all sorts of traumatized victims. These people need rehabilitation at difference levels urgently.

Well, we hope the government is reading because the worst kinds of violence are those against women and children," she concluded.

Government Officials Stopped From Honorary Doctorate Degrees

The guideline will check the excessive number and procedure of awarding honorary degrees in Nigeria.

Henceforth, political office holders are no longer to be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees, the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities has said.

In an attempt to reduce the indiscriminate award of honorary degrees, the Association, on Monday in Abuja, released guidelines for the award of honorary degrees in Nigerian universities.

The Secretary-General of the Association, Michael Faborode, said the guidelines would be effective from January 2013; and would, henceforth, be referred to as the “Keffi Declaration.”

He said that the 27th conference of the association held at the Nassarawa State University had examined the general erosion of academic culture and tradition.

Mr. Faborode said the “Keffi Declaration” would seek to restore the age long university culture and tradition of best practices.

“We have observed that the number of honorary degree awardees have become uncontrollably large, ranging from one to 20 in a single convocation ceremony and at times presented in absentia to surrogates,” Mr. Faborode said.

“We have also noted that most of these awards are based on wealth, political office, and position as a means of generating revenue with little or no consideration for integrity.

“There’s no consideration for contribution to the development of the university and no consideration for national development,” he added.

He said the agreed procedure for the award of honorary degrees enjoined universities to make it a policy not to bestow a honorary degree on any person holding political office.

He said the guidelines and procedure for the selection of honorary degree recipients should be in accordance with the law and statute of the respective universities.

According to Mr. Faborode, this should be in line with best practices and the selection process should be through the appropriate committee of the awarding university’s Senate.

“The award of degree should be given to any professional who has made significant or ground breaking discoveries in the areas of accomplishments, invention, and innovation among others to societal development.

“This should not be tied to wealth consideration or political alignment, rather it should be based on leadership, service and the contribution of the recipient to social and economic development of the society.”

Mr. Faborode said that no university should be allowed to award a honorary degree “if it has not graduated any PhD or has no post-graduate school”.

He added that the use of ‘Dr’ as a title for honorary degree recipients “is unconventional and therefore, not allowed”.

He said the association as a matter of policy had decided that universities should hold their convocation ceremonies annually, and where possible within the same month each year.

Mr. Faborode said that the association, in collaboration with the Nigeria Universities Commission, would act as a whistle blower and take appropriate action to ensure compliance.

I'm Divorcing My Wife for Spiritual Reasons; Bishop David

The negative wind of marriage divorce sweeping across Nigeria has caught up with popular Lagos cleric, Bishop David Benenoch.

During a church service recently, Bishop David the Founding pastor of Communion Church, Lagos and the presiding Bishop of Communion Church Worldwide, announced the end of his marriage to his wife of 20 years and mother of his three children, Esther Benenoch.

Bishop David was said to have told members of his church he’s seeking for divorce from the mother of his children for spiritual reasons and didn’t give any more details to his stunned worshippers.

On the other hand, it was revealed that Esther is a blogger who has written so many articles on relationships, marriages, and she’s always written against divorce. So, the question is how does one who writes against divorce get so swallowed up in the problem of divorce that she couldn’t foresee, let alone avert the encroaching disaster?

JTF Steps-up Battle Against Boko-Haram

-Six members killed in fighting

-Bomb suspects held in Ibadan

-Sect’s leader vows more attacks

It was a bad Independence Day for the fundamentalist Boko Haram sect yesterday.

Six suspected members of the group were killed by the Joint Task Force in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital and Zaria, the university town in Kaduna State.

One was killed in a gun duel in Zaria; five were gunned down in Maiduguri.

But the sect’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, vowed more attacks, saying the group would target government officials’ and military leaders’ wives – in retaliation for the detention of its members’ wives.

Shekau said the nation’s military and security agencies have seized 10 women who are wives of Boko Haram members. He claimed the women had been Molested by the captors, though he did not elaborate on how he knew that.

Shekau issued the threat in a YouTube video over the anti-Islam film that has sparked widespread protests in the Muslim world.

“First, insults against the prophet, evil plots against him, making blasphemous movies against him, all these will do no harm to Islam,” Shekau said in the video, which appears to have been posted on Sunday. He spoke in Hausa.

“Anybody plotting this will surely pay for it. Everybody knows what this statement entails. Everybody should wait and see what we will do regarding this,” he said.

The video could not be independently authenticated, according to the AFP, but it closely resembled previous such videos of Shekau, who has been in hiding since a 2009 crackdown by the military on Boko Haram.

In the video, Shekau appears relaxed, wearing a checkered red-and-white Keffiyeh scarf. A Kalashnikov assault rifle leans against the wall behind him.

At one point in the video, Shekau laughed and said: “You should wait and see what’s going to happen to your own wives.”

“Let it be clear that we never sought dialogue or to sit down with government agents or representatives … they (Nigerian leaders) will never know peace while they attack our members.”

Shekau also said the sect’s spokesman was being detained by the security forces.

“Our spokesman, Abu Qaqa is alive but with the security agents, but I believe strongly that after this message from me, they may decide to kill him this night,” Shekau said.

It was the first public statement on the matter by the militants since a raid, which it says led to Qaqa’s arrest but not his death.

Senior security sources said on Sept. 16 that troops had killed a man identified as “Anwal Kontagora, alias ‘Abu Qaqa’”, whose pen name is often used to claim responsibility for the sect’s pronouncements from its base in the northeast of the country.

A number of protests over the anti-Islam film produced in the United States have been held in the North, organised by a Shiite Muslim group not connected to Boko Haram, with no violent incidents occurring. The protests have been held in Jos, Katsina, Kaduna and Zaria, among others.
In the nine-minute video, Shekau, an AK-47 leant on the wall next to him, also threatens the government, saying he is prepared to die. He denied that the group has been holding dialogue with the government.

Boko Haram’s insurgency in the North has been blamed for more than 1,400 deaths since 2010.
It was a bloody Independence Day in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, yesterday.

A member of the Joint Task Force (JTF) was killed and four others seriously injured when an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) targeted at their patrol vehicle exploded on Lagos Street in the city. The assailants were believed to be members of Boko Haram.

According to sources, the JTF men were on routine patrol when the bomb went off around 8am. The patrol vehicle went up in flames. A Fire Service source told our reporter that he saw the body of a soldier lying on the ground.
He said other soldiers were injured. But JTF spokesman Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa denied knowledge of the attack. He, however, confirmed that there was an explosion in the area and promised to give details later. Shops owners around the place quickly fled the area leaving their shops open. Security operatives cordoned off the area.

Maiduguri Street were deserted as people ran indoors. Four people were shot dead on Sunday night by gunmen in Damboa, also in the beleaguered city. Residents said the people were shot dead by gunmen who stormed their homes behind the CBN quarters.
The JTF attacked the sect and killed five suspected members in a gun duel at Abbaganaram Ward.

Two explosions had earlier rocked the state capital in the morning at Gwange quarters and Lagos Street.

In Jos, the Plateau state capital, the police yesterday defused an Improvised Explosive Device on Ajayi Street in the centre of the city.
The IED was planted by unknown persons at about 10.10 pm on Sunday at the densely populated area of Kwararafa, near the Jos Central Mosque.
Nobody died. The police arrested one person over the incident.

The police Bomb Disposal Squad, led by Mr.Abel Mbibi, was alerted by members of the public. Police spokesman Emmanuel Abuh said the suspect had been handed over to the Special Task Force. (STF).
In Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, three suspects, including a Burkinabe, have been arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to smuggle explosive devices into the country through a border.
The explosives were allegedly meant for Borno and Yobe states.

The suspects, who were paraded by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operation), Mr Musa Kimo, at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan are in their 40s.

Kimo said the suspects were apprehended around 8pm on Saturday by the anti-bomb squad. He said they concealed the explosives in a sack.

Kimo added that the anti-bomb personnels confirmed that the explosives recovered from them are capable of destroying a whole community and was expected to be transported to Yobe and Borno states.
The police boss said one of the suspects claimed to be a citizen of Burkina Faso works with a mining company in Kwara State. The other said he is from Lambu town in Kano State.

Although the Burkinabe said he was sent from the mining company to deliver the explosives to someone, Kimo said if he was on a legal trip, the law stipulates that anyone transporting an explosive should inform the police for authorisation.
